Animation in GUI interface is becoming better and better. Remember the first good, gimmicky use of animation was when Steve Jobs introduced the OS X preview in Macworld — a window being sucked into the Dock and save and open dialog split from window. Apple makes more and more use of animation in the interface. The Drawer is one — a press of button — an area gradually pushes out of left or right side of the window to which it attached. The similar idea is that functional/information pellet will show but in a white or occupied area. In an occupied area, the occupying object will gradually fold up. The best example can be found in the http://www.apple.com/startpage/

The truth is, it is not Apple who invent these animated display of object, but that the invention must owe its credit to the Flash and Javascript animated pages on the Web.
